Custom Email Sending (BYO Email)

By default, Equaticket sends ticket confirmations and event reminders from noreply@mail.equaticket.com. With BYO Email, available on Starter, Growth, and Pro plans, you can send these emails from your own domain — so buyers see tickets@yourvenue.com instead.

What BYO Email Does

Once configured, all of Equaticket's transactional emails to your buyers are sent through your own Resend account using your verified sending domain. Your email cap still applies — BYO email changes the sending identity, not the volume limits.

BYO email is Resend only. There is no option to use SendGrid, Postmark, or another provider.

Which Emails Route Through Your Domain

Once BYO email is active, the following email types are sent via your Resend account:

  • Ticket delivery (the email with the buyer's QR code)
  • Order confirmation
  • Refund confirmation
  • Event cancellation notices
  • Ticket resend requests
  • Event reminders
  • Waitlist confirmation, availability, and expiry notices
  • Series slot reminders and slot cancellation notices

Equaticket platform emails sent to you as an organizer — magic links for check-in staff, team invitations, billing notifications, and subscription lifecycle emails — always use the platform sending address and are not affected by BYO email.

Requirements

  • An active Resend account (Resend's free tier is sufficient for most organizers)
  • A domain you control with the ability to add DNS records
  • Starter, Growth, or Pro plan on Equaticket

Setup

Setup has two phases: verifying your domain in Resend, then connecting it in Equaticket.

Phase 1: In Resend

  1. Log in to your Resend account and go to Domains
  2. Click Add Domain and enter the domain you want to send from (e.g. mail.yourvenue.com)
  3. Resend will display the DNS records required to verify the domain — add these to your DNS provider
  4. Wait for Resend to confirm the domain as verified (this usually takes a few minutes, but DNS changes can take up to 24 hours)
  5. Once verified, go to API Keys in Resend and create a new key. Give it sending permissions for the verified domain

Phase 2: In Equaticket

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Email
  2. Enter your Resend API key in the Resend API Key field
  3. Enter your verified domain in the From Domain field (e.g. mail.yourvenue.com) — this must exactly match the domain you verified in Resend
  4. Click Connect Email Domain

After connecting, Equaticket sends a test email to your account address to confirm delivery is working.

Testing Your Setup

Once connected, a Send Test Email button appears on the Email settings page. Clicking it sends a test message through your Resend account to your Equaticket login email. If the email arrives, your setup is working. If it fails, check that the domain in Equaticket matches the verified domain in Resend exactly.

Email Cap and Degraded Mode

Your Equaticket email cap applies the same way whether you are using platform email or BYO email. When you approach or hit your cap:

  • Ticket delivery, order confirmation, refund notifications, event cancellation, and slot cancellation emails always send regardless of cap
  • Event reminders are deprioritized when the cap is reached and may not send
  • Ticket resend requests may be blocked when the cap is reached
  • Magic link emails (used by buyers to look up orders or resend tickets) may be blocked when the cap is reached — buyers will be unable to retrieve their tickets until your quota resets or your BYO key is restored

BYO email does not bypass the cap. If you need a higher cap, upgrade your plan.

To check your email usage: Go to Dashboard > Settings > Email. If you're using BYO email, also verify your Resend API key is valid and that your Resend account has sufficient sending quota — the two limits are tracked independently.

Rotating or Removing Your Key

If your Resend API key is compromised:

  1. Revoke the key immediately in your Resend account under API Keys
  2. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Email in Equaticket
  3. Click Disconnect
  4. Create a new API key in Resend
  5. Reconnect by entering the new key and your domain

Until a valid key is entered, Equaticket falls back to sending from noreply@mail.equaticket.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do buyers see any difference?

They see your sending domain in the "From" address. The email content, branding, and format are identical — only the sender identity changes.

What happens if my Resend account runs out of sending credits?

Equaticket attempts delivery through your Resend account. If Resend rejects the send because of account limits, the email may fail to deliver. Monitor your Resend account's sending usage separately from your Equaticket cap — the two limits are independent.

Can I use a different email provider — SendGrid, Postmark, or another?

No. BYO email works exclusively with Resend. Other providers are not supported.

I verified my domain in Resend but Equaticket says the domain is invalid.

The domain you enter in Equaticket must exactly match the domain you verified in Resend, including any subdomain (e.g. mail.yourvenue.com, not just yourvenue.com). Copy the value directly from Resend's domain list to avoid typos.

Does BYO email work with the email integrations for Mailchimp and Kit?

These are separate features. BYO email controls the sending identity for Equaticket's transactional emails. Mailchimp and Kit integrations sync buyer data to your marketing list — those emails are sent by Mailchimp or Kit directly, not through Equaticket. See Email Integrations for details.
