Publishing Before Stripe Is Ready
You do not have to finish connecting Stripe before you publish an event. If your event has paid tickets and Stripe cannot take payments yet, you can publish now. Your event page goes live, free tickets are available right away, and your paid tickets go on sale automatically as soon as Stripe is ready.
What happens when you publish
On the publish step, the Before you publish checklist shows the Stripe row in an amber box instead of red, with the message Paid tickets go on sale when Stripe is ready. It lists up to three of your paid tickets by name and price, and has a Finish connecting Stripe link. If your event is not priced in USD, the box also reminds you that your Stripe account must accept that currency for the tickets to go on sale.
When you click Publish event, your event goes live right away. A short note confirms that paid tickets go on sale when Stripe is ready and that we will email you when they are live. We also email you once, right away, with the subject Your event is live. Paid tickets go on sale once Stripe is connected. It names your event and the paid tickets waiting, and links to your payment settings. If you publish more events with paid tickets before Stripe is ready, we do not send that email again; those events appear in the email below. If you would rather finish Stripe setup first, use Finish connecting Stripe before you publish.
What buyers see
- Your event page and any free tickets work as normal.
- Paid tickets are hidden. They cannot be bought, and they do not appear on your event page, embedded widget or door page.
- If every ticket is paid, buyers see Tickets go on sale soon instead of a buy button.
What you see
- Event page in your dashboard: an amber banner explains what Stripe still needs, and each waiting ticket is labeled Goes on sale when Stripe is ready.
- Events list: a Paid tickets pending label appears next to the event.
- Getting started checklist: Connect Stripe to start selling paid tickets moves to after publishing. It shows In review while Stripe checks your details.
To finish setup, go to Dashboard > Settings > Payments. See Connecting Your Stripe Account.
When paid tickets go on sale
As soon as Stripe can accept payments in your event's currency, your paid tickets go on sale on their own. You do not need to republish. We email you when they are live (subject Your paid tickets are on sale.), with links to the events that now have paid tickets for sale.
Paid tickets that are sold out, or past their sale end date, are left out of that email. The email also lists any event that cannot sell paid tickets yet because of its currency.
Good to know
- Paid tickets that are waiting still count toward your plan's ticket allowance.
- If Stripe has restricted or rejected your account, or you disconnected it, you cannot publish a paid event until that is resolved. See Stripe Account Issues.
- If your Stripe account has finished setup and does not support your event's currency, you cannot publish until you change the currency or use a supported one. If setup was not finished when you published, we tell you in the email once Stripe is ready which events cannot sell paid tickets because of currency; duplicate the event in a currency your account accepts to start selling.
- If you add a paid ticket to an event that is already live while Stripe is not ready, that ticket waits the same way.
- Events created through the public API, and timed-entry series, still need Stripe ready before you publish a paid event.
