Choosing a Banner: Templates and Gradients
Your event banner is the wide image across the top of your event page. You can upload your own photo, or skip the upload and pick one of our ready-made templates or a color gradient. Templates and gradients are free on every plan.
Where to find it
- When you create an event: on the first step, in the Cover image section, select Browse covers. Your choice is saved when you create the event.
- When you edit an event: on the first step of the editor, in the Cover image section, select Browse covers (it reads Change cover once the event has one). Your change is saved right away.
- Recurring series: on the series form, select Templates and gradients in the Cover Image section. On the edit form your change is saved right away; on the create form it is saved when you create the series. Dates that already exist keep their current banner until you use Propagate Template on the series page, which updates future draft dates only.
- Timed-entry series: on the series page, select Templates and gradients in the Series banner section. Your change is saved right away.
Only owners and admins can change the banner. Event managers and check-in only staff do not see the button.
Pick a template
The picker opens with a gallery of photos. Use the row of categories at the top, such as music, food, sports and community, to narrow it down, or just scroll. Choose a photo, then select Use this cover. Our template images contain no text and no people, so your event name and details stay easy to read over the image.
On the event first step on a wide screen, the picker sits beside your live event preview, and the preview shows the photo you have chosen before you select Use this cover. Select Cancel and your event goes back to the cover it had.
A template is a copy. Choosing one does not link your banner to our library, so you can replace or remove it at any time without affecting other events.
Make a simple background
Below the photos, Simple backgrounds offers these choices:
- Your brand colors: a gradient built from your organization's current brand colors. If you have not set custom brand colors, this option is called Equaticket blue instead.
- Presets: a set of ready-made two-color gradients, such as Sunset, Ocean and Midnight.
- Custom: enter a Start color and an End color and choose a Direction, or turn on Solid color for a single color.
A gradient is a fixed image. If you later change your brand colors, your existing banner does not change. To use the new colors, make a new gradient and apply it.
The banner text is white, so each color must be dark enough to read against it. If a color you chose is too light, you will see a message asking you to pick a darker color. For a brand color that is too light, we darken it for you and tell you so: "That color is too light for white text. We darkened it."
Upload your own
Select Upload photo (in the picker, or on the Cover image section) and choose a landscape image of at least 1200 by 600 pixels, up to 5 MB (PNG, JPEG or WebP). You can also drag a photo onto the Cover image section or onto the picker. Images are cropped to a 2:1 shape when they are saved.
Remove a banner
To take a cover off your event, or a banner off your series, use Remove in that section. Your event then shows the default band in your brand colors, with no image.
When banners are removed
Banners are removed automatically 90 days after your event ends. For a timed-entry series, the banner is removed 90 days after the series' last time slot ends. Removal is silent, so save a copy of any banner you want to keep.
Things to know
- You can change the banner on a draft, published or paused event. A completed or cancelled event cannot be changed.
- If a template cannot be saved, your current banner stays as it is and you will see a message. Try again, or upload your own image.
