What free actually means
On most ticketing platforms, “free” means free to list and expensive to sell. They charge a percentage of every ticket plus flat per-ticket fees. Eventbrite's service fee is 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket, plus 2.9% payment processing on top. On a $20 ticket, that's $3.18 per ticket before the money reaches you.
Equaticket's free tier means the platform costs $0 per month. The only fee is Stripe's payment processing, which applies to every ticketing platform that accepts card payments.
