CrowdWork Alternative
A CrowdWork Alternative Where Nobody Pays Per Ticket
CrowdWork is free for your theatre because your audience covers the $1 on every ticket. Equaticket removes the per-ticket fee entirely: a flat monthly subscription, no platform cut, and money that lands in your own Stripe account.
No credit card required · Free tier available
Selling 500 tickets a month and absorbing fees? CrowdWork's platform fee is $500. → Equaticket is $79/month, flat.

Why organizers switch
The case for a flat subscription
“Free for sellers” means your audience is paying
CrowdWork’s $1 per ticket does not disappear, it moves. Their default setting passes every fee to the patron, so a $12 improv ticket costs your audience $13 plus processing at checkout. That is fine until you look at what it does to a Tuesday night walk-up crowd. Comedy runs on impulse buys, and every dollar between “I might go” and “I bought a ticket” costs you a seat. Equaticket has no platform fee to pass on, so the price you print is the price your patron pays.
If you absorb fees, the $1 is real money
More and more rooms have moved to all-in pricing, and rightly so. But on CrowdWork, absorbing means paying $1 out of your own pocket for every ticket you sell. 500 tickets a month is $500. 3,000 a quarter is $3,000. On Equaticket the same volume is $79 a month or $237 a quarter, and it does not move when you have a great month. Doing the honest thing should not get more expensive the better you do.
Square is not optional on CrowdWork
CrowdWork requires a linked Square account to sell any paid ticket. There is no Stripe option, no PayPal, no alternative. If your books already run through Stripe, if you have a Stripe account underwritten and working, or if Square is simply not how your organization takes money, that is a wall with nothing behind it. Equaticket connects to your own Stripe account and pays you directly, with no platform holding your revenue in between.
Your checkout should live on your website
CrowdWork’s widget puts a calendar on your site, then hands the buyer to crowdwork.com to actually pay, with “Powered by CrowdWork” at the bottom of the page. Equaticket’s widget completes the whole purchase on your own site under your own branding, on your own domain, with a WordPress plugin if that is what you run. Your audience never leaves you, and the traffic you paid to get stays yours.
When CrowdWork is the right choice
CrowdWork is a good product built by people who actually work in comedy, and the venues using it tend to like it. It was built for improv theatres specifically, and it shows. Classes, workshops, memberships, gift cards and payment plans are all first-class, and their Square POS app handles the door and the bar in one place.
If you pass fees to your patrons, sell a modest number of tickets, already run Square at the venue, and want membership and gift card programs out of the box, CrowdWork will serve you well and cost you nothing directly.
Equaticket is the better fit when you want to absorb fees without watching them scale, when you want your patron's price to be the price you set, when you need checkout on your own domain, when your money has to land in Stripe, or when you need an API, webhooks or Zapier to connect ticketing to the rest of how you work.
When to choose what
When to Choose What
Choose CrowdWork if:
- You pass all fees to your patrons and want zero fixed monthly cost
- You already run Square at your venue for the bar or box office
- Memberships and gift cards are core to your revenue model
- You sell a small enough volume that $1 per ticket stays under a subscription
- You want an all-in-one iOS/Android POS app for door sales
Choose Equaticket if:
- You absorb fees, or you want to, without the cost scaling with every ticket
- You want your patron’s checkout price to match your printed price
- Your money needs to land in your own Stripe account
- You want checkout embedded on your own site and domain, not a redirect
- You need an API, webhooks or Zapier to connect your other tools
- You are moving off another platform and need existing ticket holders imported
- You want a flat cost you can put in a budget twelve months ahead

Common questions about CrowdWork
How much does CrowdWork charge per ticket?
CrowdWork charges $1 per ticket or registration, plus 2.9% + $0.30 credit card processing through Square. There is no monthly fee and no contract. By default those fees are passed on to the ticket buyer, so the venue receives the full face price and the patron pays the difference at checkout. Free tickets and cash transactions carry no fee. Enabling gift cards or memberships adds 1% of all transactions per feature while that feature is active.
Is CrowdWork really free for venues?
It is free in the sense that CrowdWork charges the venue nothing directly when fees are passed to the buyer, which is the default setting. The $1 per ticket is still charged on every paid sale, it is just collected from your audience rather than from you. If you choose to absorb fees instead, which many comedy and community arts organizations now do to keep advertised prices honest, you pay $1 for every ticket you sell.
What is the best CrowdWork alternative for comedy clubs and improv theatres?
Equaticket is a flat-subscription alternative built for general admission venues that run shows regularly. Plans are $29, $79 or $189 a month with no per-ticket platform fee at any tier, so the cost does not scale with ticket volume. Checkout embeds on your own website, revenue goes straight to your own Stripe account, and there is a free plan for up to 50 tickets per 30 days.
Does CrowdWork work with Stripe?
No. CrowdWork requires a linked Square account to sell paid tickets, and no alternative payment processor is documented. If your organization runs on Stripe, you would need to add Square to use CrowdWork. Equaticket connects to your own Stripe account, and ticket revenue is paid to you directly.
Does CrowdWork have an API or Zapier integration?
CrowdWork does not publish an API, webhooks, or a Zapier or Make integration in its documentation. It supports data export by CSV and tracking pixels for Google Analytics, Meta and TikTok. Equaticket provides a documented REST API, outbound webhooks, and setup guides for both Zapier and Make.
Can I use my own domain with CrowdWork?
CrowdWork event pages are hosted at crowdwork.com/e/ and carry “Powered by CrowdWork” branding. Venue subdomains exist but redirect to the main CrowdWork domain, and custom domain support is not documented. CrowdWork does offer an embeddable calendar widget for your website, though checkout still completes on crowdwork.com. Equaticket supports custom domains and a full checkout widget that keeps the buyer on your site.
What was Fourth Wall Tickets?
Fourth Wall Tickets was CrowdWork’s original name. The company rebranded to CrowdWork and still operates as Fourth Wall Tickets LLC. If you are researching Fourth Wall Tickets, CrowdWork is the same product.
Can I move my existing ticket holders off CrowdWork?
Yes. Export your ticket and customer data from CrowdWork as a CSV, then use Equaticket’s ticket import to re-issue tickets to everyone who already bought. Your buyers get new tickets by email and you stop paying per-ticket fees immediately, without waiting for your current run to finish.
